Special Event Kicks Off National Literacy Awareness Month

For four years running, we have teamed up with Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, Phillips 66 and football legends to kick off National Literacy Awareness Month by sharing the joy of reading with students at Walnut Bend Elementary School. Our high-powered reading team consisted of former Cincinnati Bengals running back Charles Alexander, former Houston Oilers quarterback Don Trull, former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Gerald McNeil, General Manager of Lone Star Sports & Entertainment David Fletcher, and more than 20 employees from Phillips 66.

“Our organization‘s core mission is on doing great things for Houston and the partnership with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and Phillips 66 is a shining example of the good that can happen in our community when you work together,” said David Fletcher. “We’re proud to support their literacy awareness efforts and be part of programs like the one at Walnut Bend Elementary each year.”
