Rockets Women’s Organization and Reliant have teamed up to host a book drive benefiting the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation. Fans will receive one raffle ticket for EVERY new or gently used Children’s book donated. Tickets will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win one of seven VIP Player Packages.

The Ladies for Literacy will be collecting books all March throughout the Houston area. The Book Drive at the Houston Rockets game will be the culmination of the community book drive.

Neil and Maria Bush will unveil the highly-anticipated authors for the 2019 A Celebration of Reading event.

Young Professionals Group members will package books purchased with the proceeds from the Jungle Book Gala to deliver to children through Kids Meals, Inc, Spring Branch ISD and other non-profits who serve underprivileged children. This is a member’s only event – drinks and light bites will be available.  Members are encouraged to bring new pre-school age children’s books to donate and to wear their “tacky” holiday sweater finest.

Our Ladies for Literacy Guild has launched the First Lady’s Book Club. Twice a year through the First Lady’s Book Club, Guild members will have an opportunity to share the joy of a book and interact with the author. The first session will feature one of Barbara Bush’s favorite authors and New York Times bestseller Brad Meltzer and his latest book, The Escape Artist.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

The Jungle Book Gala has become a favorite on the Houston social calendar! This year’s black-tie gala will be complete with food from A Fare Extraordinaire, cocktails, wine and Pura Vida tequila, an incredible silent auction, and live music by Matchmaker Band from Austin, Texas. You won’t want to miss this wild event!

Ladies for Literacy Guild members are encouraged to bring friends and shop for the holidays. Author Grant Manier will sign copies of his book, Grant the Jigsaw Giraffe.

Please join the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and your fellow literacy partners for the fourth quarterly Literacy Partner Network Meeting. The theme is Corporate Connections, which will feature best practices for building, cultivating and sustaining partnerships between non-profits and businesses. The meeting will include a 1-hour panel discussion with corporate and business leaders.

The 3rd annual Power of Literacy Luncheon is hosted by the Ladies for Literacy Guild of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. Former First Lady Laura Bush will serve as the keynote speaker in a conversation-style format moderated by her nephew, Pierce Bush.

Proceeds from the luncheon advance the legacy of former First Lady Barbara Bush by supporting literacy initiatives in Houston. An exquisite double strand of pearls donated by Tenenbaum Jewelers will also be available for raffle to the public and attendees of the luncheon.
