Today is Giving Tuesday, a global day to recognize and celebrate the power of giving back through the gift of time, donations, goods or voice. In the words of Mrs. Barbara Bush, "Believe in something larger than yourself...get involved in the big ideas of your time." We have a big idea. We believe our community will come together to tackle the literacy crisis in Houston. With your participation we can help everyone realize their fullest potential through literacy.  We encourage you to participate in the #GivingTuesday movement by doing one or  more of the following:

We encourage you and your family to volubteer with our team during the month of December. We have many volunteer events scheduled to give you the opportunity to serve others and demonstrate the power of volunteerism through our featured opportunities page and sign up today.

We have partnered with the Houston Superbowl 51 Host Committee and the Early Matters coalition as part of the Touchdown Houston ReadOn! Initiative to help build 5,100 home libraries for economically disadvantaged children. Your contribution of as little as $30 can ensure a child has choice in the books they have access to in their home. Sponsor a child's home library by donating below:

Gather your gently used books and donate them to one or more of our many partner organizations that can put them in the hands of families in need across our city. Check out Give Books page for a list of organizations accepting donated books and delivering them to children who need them the most.

Lend your voice to the literacy cause by sharing information with your family, friends and colleagues. Take a few minutes to learn the facts about literacy and encourage five people to sign up for our newsletter. Become more informed about our literacy crisis and what is being done to address it across our city. Then, pass it on.
