George H.W. Bush, and a legacy of philanthropy

With last week’s passing of George, only seven months after his beloved wife Barbara died in April, Houstonians are mourning the loss of the Bushes in waves. There has been a ripple effect through the political sphere, the literacy community and cheeky-sock aficionados. But perhaps none will feel their void as deeply as the philanthropic community.

Tribute to President George H.W. Bush at Children's Museum of Houston

On Tuesday, the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation's Young Professionals Group is hosting its fifth annual Tacky Sweater Party at the Children's Museum of Houston, where its members will mix and mingle while packaging 9,600 books into home libraries for underserved preschool-aged children throughout the city of Houston.

Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s Third Annual Power of Literacy Luncheon Honors Former First Lady

Champions for literacy gathered at the Post Oak Hotel on October 23 for the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s third annual Power of Literacy luncheon, honoring the former First Lady. The grand lobby and ballroom of the hotel were decorated with giant balloons and each table was donned with bright, colorful flowers and featured an 18-inch cutout of Barbara Bush.
