The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation envisions a thriving city where every person possesses the literacy skills necessary to reach his or her full potential in life and that the cycle of low literacy and poverty among families comes to an end. Below are highlights of our programs.

Connect4Literacy.org is Houston’s go-to website to search and sign up for volunteer opportunities focused on literacy in more than 40 libraries, schools, and community nonprofits.

my Home Library

Children need access to books at home in order to develop strong literacy skills. My Home Library inspires readers by helping them build their very own home library using a custom-built website.

In partnership with Phillips 66, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Cheniere.

Camp Adventure!

Camp Adventure! is a two-week summer learning program that combines exciting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) with Reading to mitigate summer learning loss. The program serves 400 disadvantaged elementary children each year at no cost to the family.

In partnership with Children’s Museum of Houston, Phillips 66, Houston Independent School District (HISD), PwC, Target, Marathon Oil, JP Morgan Chase & Co, Houston Food Bank, American Heart Association, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), Houston Symphony.
